Curator’s reflection
This dynamic composition presents two moments of the same individual-raw and unguarded, then composed and reflective.
Through this duality, Broome explores the full spectrum of human expression.
On the left, a spontaneous yawn breaks through restraint, a glimpse of the body's natural truth. On the right, the same figure, now collected, engages in a private ritual-lost in thought, almost teasing the viewer with his knowing gaze.
The minimal lines, bold framing, and limited palette heighten the contrast between action and stillness, revealing Broome's interest in the invisible narrative that connects our many selves.
This work invites us to consider how easily we shift between vulnerability and control-often within a single breath.
Looking closer
- Broome's use of negative space and the framed vignette on the left draw our attention to the immediacy of the moment, while the figure on the right offers a counterbalance of introspection. The red outlines and blue accents emphasize movement and connection, the unseen thread between action and thought.
