Curator’s reflection

This painting rises like a vision, an explosion of light, texture, and symbolic meaning. At its center is a small human figure, standing within a sacred space, embraced by a radiant field of golden energy. The forms suggest a flame, a vessel, a womb, or a doorway-each inviting a different interpretation.

Broome often used symbols and metaphors to express deeply personal ideas about transformation, protection, and the search for something larger than the self. The central motif, with the "Y"-shaped mark and the artist's signature, feels both spiritual and personal-a combination of identity, purpose, and transcendence.

The powerful movement of the brushstrokes draws the viewer inward while lifting the spirit upward. The dominant yellow and golds evoke illumination, hope, and awakening, while the enclosing forms offer shelter and guidance. It is a painting about emergence-stepping forward from within, into light.

Broome gives us no title and no explanation. In doing so, he leaves us with the most important invitation of all: to find our own meaning within his brushstrokes, guided by our own experiences, faith, and imagination.
